Xidian University is a national key university under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. It dedicates itself primarily to education and research in science and technologies of electronics and information, with an integration of a wide range of academic subjects covering engineering, management and social science. It is reputed as the cradle of the Chinese national electronics and information industry. It was approved by the state to be one of the universities funded by Project 211, a national program of promoting Chinese higher education.

The university consists of 15 schools with a full range of specialties in electronics and information science. In the university, there are 3 national key labs, 2 ministerial key labs, and 2 national teaching bases. The university offers 18 doctoral programs, 45 master programs, 39 undergraduate programs, 5 national key subjects, and 26 provincial and ministerial specialties, among which 6 have been elected for the national project of Yangtze Scholar Award. 

At present, the university has over 2800 faculty and staff, with adout 1400 academic research and education staff, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 6 dually appointed academicians, 175 Ph.D. tutors, 542 master tutors,and 881 full and associate professors.

Currently there are over 30,000 students studying at the University including over 6,600 postgraduates and over 17,200 undergraduate students.

西安電子科技大學是以信息與電子學科為主，工、理、管、文多學科協調發展的全國重點大學，是國家“211工程”立項建設的重點高校之一，現隸屬教育部。

學校建設有新老兩個校區，總占地面積3800余畝，校舍建筑面積130多萬平方米，圖書館藏書近270萬冊?，F有各類學生40000余人，其中普通本科生20000余人，碩士研究生7000余人，博士研究生1500余人。設有研究生院及通信工程學院等15個學院，2個國家一級重點學科（覆蓋6個二級學科）、1個國家二級重點學科，2006年全國一級學科評估“信息與通信工程”全國排名第2，“電子科學與技術”全國排名第6，4個博士學位授權一級學科，27博士學位授權點，63個碩士學位授權點，11個工程碩士授權領域，2個專業學位授權點，6個博士后科研工作站，42個本科專業，8個國家級特色專業；建設有3個國家人才培養及教學基地、2個國家級實驗教學示范中心。
